Goodbye Europe, Hello Africa (6/15)

We left Gibraltar early to ensure we weren't late for the ferry from Tarifa to Tangier, Morocco.  We had set up another tour through Said Tours (which Fe found out about) because there was no way I could navigate the place by myself.

Tarifa Port

Moorish Fort nearby

The trip over took about 35 minutes--all of which was spent waiting in line for the Moroccan official to stamp our passports.  I think they had two on board to get a full ship of passengers processed.  Who am I to question petty bureaucracy?

Needless to say, we made it in.

We also got a guided tour at this location since we were just overnight and we wanted to see everything we could.  It was money well spent because he picked us up at the port, took us to the hotel, showed us the sights, and brought us back to port the next day.

Continental Hotel.  I think a James Bond movie was filmed here, but I don't know which one.

Inside the Caves of Hercules.  This area was carved out by Berbers.  Note the patterns.

Outdoor market.  The ladies n the hats are Berbers who come in from the countryside.

The American Legation.  Morocco was the first country to recognize the US after we declared independence.

We saw a lot, and I'm sure we'll remember it for years to come.  I know "exotic" is an overused term, but it's the only one I know that can describe the place.  Tangier isn't typical for the rest of Morocco though, so it might be nice to see another part of the country someday.

¿Cómo se dice "camel" en Español?  camello
