I'm writing this on July 2nd, just over a week since we got back. Still unpacking and trying to find souvenirs, cleaning up the house, and getting back to work and the routine. I have to say that after touring Moorish castles, seeing Roman ruins, and riding a camel, preparing a fiscal closeout form for the Comptroller's office is a bit of a letdown.
People have asked what the best part was--I can't answer that since there was so much. I can say that the top three things we saw (IMHO) were:
1. The Alhambra in Granada
2. The Mosque/Cathedral in Cordoba
3. The Rock of Gibraltar
I wouldn't change much of what (or how) we did this trip, but I will admit that by the third week we were all ready to come home. With the exception of Barcelona, we never stayed more than two nights in any one place. Usually it was just one. So there was a lot of packing, unpacking, transferring, and driving, but not everyone can say they were in five countries on two continents on vacation.
You can't jam three adults (and one near-adult) in a Citroen hatchback for that long and put them on that kind of schedule without some rough spots--and there were some--but I think it's something everyone will remember and I am hoping that when Jason and Kyle are further along in life, they will have enjoyed it enough to have the urge to travel with their families in the future as well.
Until next time.
